The spatial organization adopts the traditional courtyard typology of Mardin’s civil architecture and reinterprets it through a contemporary architectural language. Inspired by the arrangement of courtyard-centered masses, colonnades, iwans, and rooms, the building units are positioned around a central open space that strengthens the relationship between interior and exterior while establishing a clear hierarchy among the institutional functions.
Aligning the masses parallel to the slope allows the building to integrate naturally with the terrain, shaping entrances and vertical circulation accordingly. The main entrance connects to the highly public Land Registry Directorate, while the Cadastre Directorate, dining hall, and guesthouse functions are organized along the remaining wings of the courtyard. This configuration creates an institutional campus that operates as a cohesive whole while maintaining functional clarity.
The façade design reinterprets the vertical proportions, rhythmic openings, and solid–void relationships of traditional Mardin stone architecture. Deep window recesses and vertical structural elements provide solar control while giving the building a strong contextual expression. The material palette is kept minimal to emphasize a calm, contemporary, and institutional character.
Ultimately, the project offers a holistic approach that harmonizes with the topography while translating the spatial principles of traditional Mardin houses into a modern institutional architecture.
