Besides the idea that the proposed design has a presence that reflects the approach of Akbank Sanat to contemporary art, the main idea was to establish a strong bond with the inside and the outside of the building.
The proposed design has been developed based on reversing the current plan layout of the exhibition and event spaces of the Akbank Sanat Building.
New Akbank Sanat was imagined not as an ordinary art space anywhere, but as a space that reminds us of the location with its interaction with the context.
Vertical circulation and floor halls have been moved to the facade. Exhibitions, events, workshops, libraries, and similar programs have been placed at the core of the building. The facade was kept almost entirely transparent.
A three-dimensional adjustable space, which contains the vertical and horizontal circulation, has been planned between the core and the facade. It can adapt to different situations, expand and contract, sometimes the preparation space of the exhibition, sometimes itself, infiltrate the event to the city, or an observation deck to watch the avenue.
