TRANQUILITY
The most distinctive feature of the existing hospital campus is that it is a large grove with mature trees. It has been taken place in the urban memory with this feature over the years. The main objective was to preserve the natural integrity created by tall trees in this green area as much as possible and to offer an accessible open space for both patients in the hospital and the citizens. Clinics were placed on the edges to accomplish this objective.
The proposed project was aimed to achieve a design far from a hospital typology despite the intensity of the architectural program.
Traces of removed roads and treeless spaces in the campus have been chosen for the location of the new structures.
Service blocks have been placed on the periphery to isolate the grove from the city and to define the interior space.
The canopy offers a controlled intermediary space, limits the grove, and presents it to the public with its permeability.
A light canopy twisting between the trees defined a common area between the restricted areas of the patients and the visitors. This canopy, which includes the trunks of the trees, creates a limiting and permeable interface between areas. The canopy becomes the roof of a path by narrowing in some places, and sometimes it widens and includes spaces of different sizes and functions.
